What drives Hafsah to push for a Calgary where there is Enough for All

“As a first-generation Pakistani-Canadian, my journey has been shaped by the rich tapestry of experiences woven from my cultural heritage and the diverse communities I've been a part of on Turtle Island. Navigating the complexities of being a racialized individual has been both challenging and enlightening, offering me firsthand insights into the importance of inclusivity and community. Growing up, the principles of empathy and compassion within my faith provided a guiding light, driving me towards actively engaging in initiatives aimed at bridging societal divides and fostering a sense of belonging for all. These values instilled in me a deep-rooted commitment to social justice and equality, inspiring me to make a meaningful difference.
I decided to pursue a Master of Social Work because of my lived experiences and a desire to address the complex nature of inequality and inequity. My studies are equipping me with the tools and knowledge to advocate for marginalized communities and enact tangible change. But it has also made me aware of the unique challenges faced by different communities and that a one-size-fits-all approach is often insufficient. Striving for a Calgary where there is Enough For All means navigating the intersections of a person’s identity and experiences, and working towards solutions that elevate voices in our diverse community. Through this approach, I hope to contribute to creating a city that embodies inclusivity, justice, and shared prosperity.”
