What drives Alicia to push for a Calgary where there is Enough for All

I’ve lived in several different cities, and I think Calgary’s a special place. Like many others, my husband and I were drawn in by the city’s energy. We could see ourselves building a community, chasing dreams, and raising a family here.
But increasingly, it’s clear that Calgary isn’t always living up to that potential. As an economist, I see this in the data—unemployment and inequality are high, and the cost of living, especially housing, is rising. But I also hear it in the stories of neighbours, friends, and countless Calgarians. Many struggle to meet basic needs. And many lack the income, assets, and support network needed to thrive.
Calgary has a wealth of resources and a strong network of thoughtful individuals and organizations dedicated to the success of our community. I think we can do better. And for the sake of the next generation, I believe we must.
That is what Enough for All is all about: doing everything we can to better understand and address root challenges of poverty and working together across the many hundreds of organizations that shape our city and support Calgarians. Through this work, we can build that vision of Calgary—a city where everyone can thrive—into a reality. And in doing so, build a stronger community for all.
I’m honoured to play a small part in carrying forward this important work for the special place we all call home.
